Physics 622: Quantum Field Theory


Course Outline

QFT for spinless fields:  canonical quantization, perturbation theory, Wick’s theorem, Feynman diagrams

Fields with spin: internal and spacetime symmetries, spin ½ and Dirac equation, spin 1, gauge invariance, Quantum Electrodynamics (QED)

Non-Abelian gauge theories: Lie algebras, SU(n) groups, Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD), ghosts, Feynman rules for QCD

Renormalization: loop diagrams, ultraviolet divergences, dimensional regularization, renormalization-scheme dependence

Functional integral methods: Gaussian functional integrals, sources, perturbation theory

Special topics (if time allows)
